North Carolina CE Requirements

 

24 continuing education credits must be earned every two years. Each licensee shall complete a 3 credit course on ethics within two years after January 1, 2008, and every two years thereafter. In addition, each agent holding a property and liability, personal lines, or adjuster license shall complete a 3 credit continuing education course on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program within two years after January 1, 2008, and every four years thereafter.

Non-Resident Requirements:

Must meet home state CE requirements.

Continuing Education Compliance Date:

The compliance period is the last day of the licensee’s birth month each odd or even year based on the licensee’s birth year.

Types of courses accepted for CE Credit:

Both classroom instruction and independent self study courses are accepted.

Course Subject Requirements:

Credits may be taken related to any line of authority.

Carryover Requirements:

Any amount of extra credits earned may carried over to the next reporting period.

Can Courses Be Repeated:

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once each biennial reporting period.

Exemptions:

A licensee must be 65 years old and continuously licensed for at least 25 years and hold a nationally recognized designation OR annually certify to the Department of Insurance that he/she is an inactive agency owner. This exemption does not apply to the ethics and flood CE requirements.
